Friends Life and Virgin Money have launched the first of their planned range of life insurance products.

The policies will be available through Virgin Money and underwritten by Friends Life.

There will be the option of using the Best Doctors second medical opinion service and access to the Bupa HealthLine for policy holders.

Cover will be on sale from £8 per month and with a maximum benefit amount of £500,000.

Friends Life's merger with Aviva was announced in 2014, which will cost £5.6bn.

Colin Williams, managing director of workplace and intermediated at Friends Life, said: "I am delighted to announce this partnership with Virgin Money.

"It's a fantastic brand for Friends Life to be working with and hopefully together we can help more people to see the benefit of life insurance.

"Most of us don't like thinking about the worst happening, but having a life insurance product can ensure that if it does, you can leave something behind that will really help your loved ones."
