Barclays Corporate and Employer Solutions has added a specialist small business team to its employee benefits unit.

The new team will focus on small to medium enterprises, whilst the wider employee benefit consultancy serves the larger corporate market.

Barclays has hired Royal Bank of Scotland's Grant Hughes as the head of the team, which consists of new hires Stephen White, Shaz Hussain, Anthony Whittington and Sam Lloyd.

Two more advisers will be appointed in future, Barclays said.

Head of Barclays Corporate and Employer Solutions Richard Phelps said: "This is an exciting time for Corporate & Employer Solutions; last year we launched our Employee Benefit Consulting business under the leadership of Paul Wilson and our Global Share Plan business under Chris Mowatt.

"With the addition of Corporate Wealth Advisory we are now able to serve the needs of all businesses, regardless of size and requirements."
