The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has outlined its priority lobbying issues for the year ahead.
The trade body's 2011 manifesto highlights three key lobbying themes:
Helping customers - While the internet may make it easier to buy some packaged insurance products, there is no substitute for advice. Many customers experience difficulty obtaining adequate and suitable cover without the help of a broker.
Regulation and consumer protection -BIBA is a strong supporter of the principle of better regulation and will continue to work to achieve this, including efforts to reduce unnecessary, unfair or inappropriate regulation. and driving change in the insurance industry.
Driving change in the insurance industry - BIBA will maintain its focus on seeking positive reform within the market to ensure its global competitiveness
Eric Galbraith, BIBA Chief Executive, said: "The big challenge for 2011 is to positively influence the coming regulatory changes that will affect insurance brokers, with development of the new Consumer Protection and Markets Authority (CPMA) and the revision of the Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD) in Europe.
"The manifesto will provide us with the opportunity to engage relevant stakeholders and ensure that we are at the heart of representing brokers."
The 2011 manifesto, formed following consultation with BIBA members and BIBA committees, will be distributed to all political stakeholders who are influential on the issues affecting insurance brokers. It will be used to outline BIBA's lobbying position to protect and promote BIBA's members on the key issues affecting them.
