Canada Life and the Income Protection Task Force (IPTF) are launching a series of free seminars for advisers aimed at growing the group income protection (GIP) market.
The first event will be held 2 November at Gen Re's offices in the Corn Exchange in London with speakers including Colin Micklewright, head of GIP business development at Canada Life, and Elliott Silk, GIP specialist and IFA.
Subjects to be covered include:
• sickness and absence in the UK;
• welfare reform and other legislative impacts and opportunities;
• barriers to the sale of GIP;
• insurers' added value services;
• scheme design (costs and options);
• claims and the view from an expert IFA in GIP.
Paul Avis, sales and marketing director at Canada Life, says: "With the Retail Distribution Review (RDR), National Employment and Savings Trust (NEST) and a whole raft of new legislation coming into the financial services market, we believe that we need to support advisers to explore our corner of the market and this initiative is one of a number that we will be undertaking to help grow the market."
Clive Waller, chairman of the IPTF, adds: "We value the support given by the insurers who are as keen as the IPTF to get income protection front and centre of client's minds when undertaking financial planning for both individual and corporate customers."
Katharine Moxham, spokesperson for Grid, concludes: "The lack of penetration in GIP is something that we are keen to address and initiatives like this show there is a willingness from all parties to change this."
