NFU Mutual has withdrawn its own protection policies from the market and has partnered with AIG Life to distribute products to customers from 1st August 2016, COVER can exclusively reveal.
The new policies available through NFU Mutual will be from the AIG Life suite of products offered to customers.
Sean McCann, chartered financial planner at NFU Mutual said the mutual had undertaken a review in April to partner with a major insurer.
McCann confirmed that existing policies would stay in force but the mutual would be contacting existing customers to let them know about the new policies available.
When COVER asked whether the plans were withdrawn in response to the Daily Mail's reporting of NFU Mutual's as "one of the worst offenders" in terms of CI transparency, NFU Mutual said that was not the case and they had been reviewing the plans for some time.
The five individual policies available will be: term assurance level increasing and decreasing, critical illness cover with term assurance, income protection, family income benefit and whole of life.
For its business customer base, NFU Mutual will offer business term assurance, business term with CI and relevant life cover.
Third party services such as Best Doctors, Winston's Wish and online trusts will also be available to NFU Mutual customers.
McCann said: "We've got 300 local offices around the UK staffed by our agents; they advise on and sell insurance products. We have 130 financial advisers, giving advice to our customers on holistic financial planning such as protection.
"AIG Life is a good fit with NFU Mutual in terms of claims philosophy, quality of product and speeds of processing. "
