The chief executive of Zurich's UK Life division, Gary Shaughnessy, has been promoted to head the division globally.
Shaughnessy (pictured) will succeed current global life chief Kristof Terryn, who will head up the general insurance business, in January.
Zurich said it will announce a successor for Shaughnessy in the UK "in due course".
Shaughnessy became UK life CEO in June 2012. He held the additional role of UK country head from 2014 and is also the interim chief executive of the global life business in the EMEA region.
Additionally he joined the board of the Personal Finance Society as an adviser in February.
Tom de Swaan, interim chief executive at Zurich said: "Gary steps up to his new role having made a significant contribution across our UK business.
"He is a great leader with a wealth of industry experience which makes him perfectly suited for the role."
Prior to joining Zurich, Shaughnessy was UK defined contribution and retail business managing director at Fidelity. He previously worked at Prudential and M&G investments.
Shaughnessy's background is in marketing and distribution with previous roles spanning financial services at AXA, the Automobile Association and the Bank of Scotland.
