Allianz Worldwide Care has revealed that in the first year of its MyHealth app being available for international private medical insurance (IPMI) policyholders, more claims were made by app than by post.
Since the app was made available it has been downloaded 60,000 times with 100,000 claims submitted, Allianz Worldwide Care revealed.
The app allows policyholders to submit claims with photos of their medical invoices and key details, as well as access to policy documents,
There is also a "Find a hospital" feature which works worldwide.
The app also includes local emergency services numbers and a translator tool for medical terms which works for 17 languages.
The app itself is available in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese, with phase II now underway.
Susan Landers, head of market management at Allianz Worldwide Care said: "We are really pleased with the interest in the MyHealth app and whilst we had anticipated significant uptake, its success has exceeded all expectations.
"In just one year, digital claims submissions have overtaken traditional post submissions.
She added: "With a globally mobile client base, accustomed to operating in a digital landscape, it was a natural step for Allianz Worldwide Care to enhance its service offering for members.
"The early response to the MyHealth app is a clear demonstration of the demand for digital services and we will continue to provide even greater value and convenience to our clients through this exciting medium."
