Friends Life is highlighting the importance of joining in with the conversation on cancer.
In light of Macmillan Cancer Support's launch of ‘Cancer Talk Week' (20 - 26 January), Friends Life is using the week as an opportunity to start talking to employees about cancer.
It will also begin plans for an internal cancer awareness day later in the year.
Customer facing teams in the Protection Insurance department have also received training from Macmillan to better understand the needs of customers who have been affected by cancer.
Steve Payne, managing director UK Protection, at Friends Life, said: "More than one in 3 of us will be affected by cancer at some stage in our lives, so while an increasing number of people need to find a way of supporting themselves and their families financially whilst they are getting on with life despite cancer.
"We also need to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our employees and customers in our understanding of the issues that cancer can cause.
"Anything which encourages people to talk more openly about cancer can only be a good thing which is why Friends Life is delighted to be joining in the conversation during ‘Cancer Talk Week'."
