One of the largest NHS contractors for pain management is to target the private health insurance (PMI) and protection sectors in the new year.
Pain Management Solutions, which currently works for 24 NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups and national clinics, is a health service provider with a multi-disciplinary approach to pain management.
The company, which claims to have reduced reliance on pain medication for 75% of its NHS patients, intends to roll the service out to the private sector next year and will initially be targeting the PMI sector before moving across into the income protection niche.
Michael Benton, chief executive of Pain Management Solutions and previously managing director of Medicals direct, said: "This service keeps people with pain in work. Our teams' endeavours result in less sickness, lower absence rates and fewer claims for providers.
"We will be launching our brochure proposition at the year's end and talking to industry from early in the new year.
"This could have a huge effect in the insurance sector. Our multi discipline approach, which includes cognitive behavioural therapy will improve outcomes across the board."
Pain Management Solutions also intends to develop a parallel obesity management service and to open a dedicated pain clinic in London.
