AXA PPP healthcare has introduced a free second opinion service for members of its individual private medical insurance plans.
The insurer will meet all eligible costs incurred in securing a second consultant's opinion, for members who question their initial diagnosis or who are unhappy with their current consultant, including appointment costs and the cost of tests and scans.
So as not to disadvantage members whose plans include a voluntary excess, no claims discount or have limits to their out-patient benefits, AXA PPP will not apply these policy terms in respect of second opinion service related costs such as consultant's fees, tests and scans.
Sonia Wolsey Cooper, membership and people director at AXA PPP healthcare said: "The vast majority of members are happy with the service their consultants provide. However, we know from experience that from time to time some members are uncomfortable or unhappy with their situation.
"They may not be fully convinced their consultant's diagnosis or proposed course of treatment is correct - something that can be a big concern for members with children. For other members, the ‘chemistry' may be wrong.
"We're confident the Second Opinion Service will make a big difference to members who through no fault of their own want further reassurance of their diagnosis and treatment plan."
