Aviva has added benefits and options to its individual private health insurance cover.
The provider's Healthier Solutions policyholders will see the changes come into force from 1 January 2013.
Each individual member of a Healthier Solutions policy will earn their own No Claim Discount (NCD), rather than the NCD being applied to the policy itself.
This translates to, for example, no effect on the NCD for other members of the policy should one family member make a claim.
Members will also have a personal NCD allowance of £250 for each policy year enabling them to claim up to this amount for new claims without changing the NCD status.
Nicola Graham, head of commercial and proposition development at Aviva Health, said: "We're continually adapting this product to keep up-to-date with medical advances and provide customers with improved cover, in particular in the clinical areas that we know our customers are increasingly requiring treatment, such as talking therapies and psychiatric care."
Policyholders can also reduce premiums by up to 40% by choosing a £0 option for out-patient cover.
The new £0 out-patient limit does not apply to out-patient treatment for cancer; members will still have access to full cover for out-patient radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, and CT, MRI and PET scans at recognised diagnostic centres.
There are further increases to cover including £100 for each procedure for minor GP surgery - up from £70 - and pre-admission tests needed before a hospital stay will be covered without being taken from any out-patient limit.
Aviva has also aimed to improve its psychiatric cover in the product by doubling the out-patient limit in core cover to £2,000 for each person per policy year.
Parents who cover their children on a Healthier Solutions policy will also be able to claim for two sessions of speech therapy for each child per policy year.
