Integration and private healthcare opportunities will be crucial to taking the UK health system forward, conservative MP Stephen Dorell, chair of the Health Select Committee has said.
He said, presenting at the AMII summit: "We are getting older, our expectations are rising, medicine can do more things - the demand for healthcare services has been rising by roughly 4% per annum.
"It has been met by 3% growth of tax payer resources and 1% of tax payer inefficiency. And demand will go on rising."
Dorell added it was a fundamental mistake to assume there were two separate sectors and missed the point of the demand for care in the UK.
"We need to be re-imagining the care system we have to deliver. There is an opportunity for the private sector to engage in this process," he said.
