MPs from the All Party Local Government group have launched an inquiry examining the future of care provision, answering questions thrown up by the Dilnot Commission report.
Coinciding with the publication of the government's Social Care White Paper, the Inquiry will examine "a growing disconnect between demand and available resources", capture current best practice, and attempt to establish principles that should inform the adult social care system of the future.
Heather Wheeler MP, chair of the Group, commented: "At a local level social care is a massive issue both because of the quality of care delivered, but also the cost of care.
"People know a lot more because of the Dilnot Report, but there are still so many unanswered questions.
"This Inquiry gives us the opportunity to explore this area, hear from experts, and contribute to finding ways forward to the White Paper".
Supported by think tank, the Local Government Information Unit and insurer Partnership the inquiry will hear evidence from a number of organisations including local authorities, the Department for Health and the Kings Fund and will publish recommendations in the summer to inform the forthcoming Government White Paper on social care.
Chris Horlick, Managing Director, Care, Partnership added: ""Partnership believes that adult social care is one of the most significant issues facing the UK. Accordingly we welcome the scrutiny and expertise with which the Local Government All Party Parliamentary Group will bring to bear on this issue."
