PruProtect has released a more affordable version of its life and critical illness policy.

Features including automatic children's cover, guaranteed insurability options and immediate cover have been removed, but customers can upgrade to the existing policy.

It does however include severity-based cover and the Vitality incentive programme.

The Essentials plan is available online only through IFAs and is intended as a support to their existing PruProtect plan.

Deepak Jobanputra, actuarial and product director for PruProtect, said: "We have launched this latest product to provide greater choice and flexibility.

"Our philosophy is based upon innovation, choice and comprehensiveness of cover and we have remained true to our core values."

The provider is unveiling the new policy with a series of roadshows around the country until Friday 13 November, and promises more new products in the coming months.
