Aviva is aiming to settle death claims from group risk customers within three days.
The provider is introducing an electronic claims process for group risk schemes that will allow forms to be completed and submitted online.
It said this should mean that in ‘most cases' it expected life insurance claims to be settled within three days.
The online Government Deaths Register will be checked as part of the process, often removing the need to request the original death certificates from the bereaved family, while the online claim form will capture enough information to determine within 24 hours what further documentation may be needed.
Aviva said not requiring an original death certificate would enable the family to continue with other claims or notifications which do require sight of the original and remove a further source of potential worry.
Earlier this year, the ABI announced it was cutting the guidance time for payment of death claims to four weeks, although this is primarily targeted at individual policies.
Steve Bridger, head of group risk at Aviva, said customer feedback indicated claims process changes was appreciated.
"The new process builds on this, enabling us to reduce the amount of time between claim and pay-out and further helping our customers at a very tough time," he added.
