Bright Grey CI payouts hit 90%

clock • 1 min read

Bright Grey paid nine in every 10 critical illness (CI) claims in the first half of 2009.

The 90% figure is 7% up on the year ending 31 March, although the number of claims rejected for non-disclosure rose to 2.5% from 1.8%.

However, this total is still down on the 12% recorded in the year 2007/8.

CI approval rates have been rising steadily in recent years, but this marks a significant leap for Bright Grey, which only recorded a payout figure of 83% for the 12 months to March.

The average payment for H1 this year was almost £80,000, also an increase on the £77,000 sum in '07/8.

Roger Edwards, proposition director at Bright Grey, says: "Overall we have more claims being paid and more people using our Helping Hand service.

"It's important to focus on the people behind the statistics, so that through things like Helping Hand we can make it personal and deliver a service that provides for the real individual impact of a critical illness."
