The Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) and Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) have confirmed the launch of the new health insurance examination.
As expected it will take place on 28 April at AMII's AGM, where full details will be announced.
Speaking in COVER's December issue, AMII Chairman Mike Izzard announced the date and noted that several providers had already agreed to promote the qualification to their broker facing sales teams.
The objective of the new examination is to provide knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles and practices relating to healthcare insurance and in so doing demonstrate professional standards to consumers to inspire their confidence and trust.
The examination's syllabus will cover seven key areas including structure of the UK healthcare insurance market, product types and applying risk assessment, rating and underwriting considerations and respective roles and responsibilities of intermediaries and healthcare insurers.
Mike Izzard, chairman of AMII, said: "On behalf of AMII I wish to thank the CII for all its support in making this examination a reality. This has really been a joint effort between the CII and ourselves over a three year period and I am delighted that we will be able to announce the format of the examination and coursework in just over a month's time."
Steve Jenkins, director of financial services markets at the CII, added: "We are very pleased to have been given the opportunity to work with AMII to develop this new examination. The new qualification has been created to provide a benchmark for standards of professionalism and expertise that will meet both the current and future needs of the PMI sector."
