Support for an unbiased protection training academy is growing following the announcement that 17 industrywide companies have signed up to the first phase of the initiative.
The Protection Review's joint venture with PFS has already gained backing from insurance providers, friendly societies and re-insurers.
Although not exclusively aimed at advisers, it is hoped the academy will encourage more IFAs to enter the protection market and raise the standards of all those involved already.
Roger Edwards, proposition director of Bright Grey and Scottish Provident, said: "It's so important that we all pull together and help support initiatives like this to increase the profile of the protection industry.
"By getting behind this we can really increase the importance of protection so that advisers instinctively put their clients' protection needs ahead of anything else and help them build a solid foundation for all their financial needs."
So far, Aegon, Bright Grey, Scottish Provident, Fortis, L&G, LV=, PruProtect, Zurich, Exeter Friendly, Cirencester Friendly, Munich Re, Scor, Hannover Re, Swiss Re, Gen Re, RGA and Pacific Life Re have signed up to the project.
The protection body is now preparing the training programme, along with dates and locations, and is requesting ideas or suggestions for the process.
