From net-zero commitments to chasing better health for all, sustainability pledges in the protection insurance industry have the potential to impact both consumers and the wider market in the years ahead, writes Hannah Godfrey.

Protection insurance has not escaped the sustainability push seen across financial markets. Although protection insurance garners less media attention for its sustainability stance than general insurers, which can refuse to insure ‘dirty' industries like coal altogether, providers are still keen to publicise their environmental pledges. Scottish Widows, for example, recently published its roadmap to net zero, which sets out its strategy for achieving decarbonisation targets and a net-zero policy by 2050.
