Pulse puts its finger on impaired life and difficult to place market

Pulse Insurance has entered the Income protection (IP) market. As with the firm's life and medical products it will be aimed at the impaired life and difficult to place market.

Pulse is an insurance intermediary which specialising in developing and maintaining relationships with insurers prepared to cover non-standard risks. These include syndicates at Lloyd's and other organisations in the London insurance market.

Paul Sandilands, managing director at Pulse, predicted a growing market for the product. He said; "IP sales in this niche are set to grow. It is currently difficult to get IP if you have diabetes for instance, and yet the incidence of diabetes in society is growing."

He added: "Not all those insured will have impaired lives. We also source for people working in countries such as Afganistan."

Sandilands also announced that Pulse is to enter the long term care market by the end of the year, but has decided against entering the Critical Illness sector. "We get asked for CI but can't really offer it as most clients already have a critical illness. I am not a fan of exclusions as there is always the problem of mitigations so we have decided to steer clear."
