Adrian Gore, founder and CEO of the Discovery Group, Vitality's parent company, has been awarded the Geneva Forum for Health Award at the World Health Assembly.
The award was given to recognise contribution to health systems by developing Discovery's insurance model and for its potential to improve health.
Four others received the award, including Dame Sally Davies, chief medical officer for the UK for her advancement of health research.
The other recipients were the Aravind Eye Hospital in India, a network which has treater over 32m patients, mostly for free, and Professor Therese N'Dri Yoman, former Minister of Health for Ivory Coast.
The award recipients were chosen by an independent panel chaired by Professor Dr Julio Frenk, dean of the faculty at the Harvard School of Public Health.
