Teresa Fritz is to join the executive committee of the Income Protection Task Force from 1 April 2015.
Fritz previously worked at Which?; The Money Advice Service; The Financial Services Consumer Panel; and BIBA.
The IPTF launched Seven Families and is dedicated to promoted the value of income protection.
Fritz said: "I am really pleased to be joining the IPTF executive at such an exciting and important time.
"The Seven Families initiative is starting to ignite a real interest in income protection.
"I have long believed income protection is a massive consumer need and the industry should be focusing on helping to fulfil this need more actively.
"I hope I can bring a different and valuable perspective to their thinking."
Peter Le Beau, chairman of IPTF, said: "We are delighted to welcome Teresa to the IPTF Executive.
"Teresa will ensure that in whatever we do, we put the interests of consumers uppermost in our thinking and she is a huge believer in the value of income protection.
