Canada Life has announced that its Early Intervention Service (EIS) has seen 47% of referrals result in a return to work.
The result was announced a year after Canada Life extended the EIS to all companies insured with its group income protection (GIP) policy.
Formerly it had been available to those with annual premiums of over £300,000, having been introduced in 2010.
By extending the policy Canada Life made it available to 4,450 additional employers and 328,000 employees.
The EIS intervenes after 2 weeks of continuous absence for someone off with stress, or 4 weeks in terms of back pain to try and help the employees return to work.
Paul Avis, marketing director of Canada Life Group Insurance (pictured) said: "As well as providing a financial benefit, we believe that we have a responsibility to support employers and our EIS approach clearly has benefits for all concerned.
"For employers it may help to mitigate occupational and statutory sick pay and maintain appropriate premium levels for their group income protection cover."
Ian Ranger, head of claims management services operations at Canada Life, added that at no additional cost, more employers should be using the service.
