Consumer group Angry Policyholders has voiced its support for the Seven Families initiative.
Angry Policyholders had launched a consumer website and social media campaign to identify poor practice in financial services and the insurance industry.
The campaign began after the founder had a claim rejected by Scottish Provident and after three years fighting the decision including using social media and the tag #scotprovsaysno.
Now the group has given its backing to the Seven Families initiative which is running a campaign to support seven UK families where the main breadwinner is unable to work but they not have an income protection policy.
Chris Hargreaves, head of the Angry Policyholders said: "Not only will Seven Families be an excellent way of highlighting the importance of Income Protection insurance to the seven families who did not consider this type of insurance, but their personal stories hopefully will show the difference this income makes to their lives whilst recovering from an illness or accident.
"From personal experience having no replacement income only adds stress and debt, delaying any recovery when you are at your most vulnerable. Hopefully Seven Families will highlight the need for more consumers to purchase IP and protect their monthly income."
Hargreaves added: "UK insurers should be applauded for raising awareness of IP, a type of insurance consumers fail to consider in any great number. Hopefully Seven Families will lead to a more proactive approach by UK insurers to raise awareness of the importance of IP, leading consumers to purchase this type of insurance in greater numbers."
In addition. the Money Advice Service recently revealed it is backing the Seven Families campaign.
