Over 87% of employees will be looking for a new job in 2014, with over half (52.6%) doing so because they do not trust their boss, research finds.
The survey of 15,000 jobseekers conducted by staffbay.com called on bosses to get to know their employees better or else risk losing them to a rival business.
According to the survey, 87% of employees will look online for a new role when applying for a job.
Staffbay.com co-founder Tony Wilmot said the figures should act as a "wake-up call" for employers who might return after Christmas to find many employees handing in their resignation letters.
"They [employers] should ask themselves - do they really know their staff? Perhaps they don't know their employees well enough, because most of them want to move on," he explained.
"What this survey shows us is that there is a breakdown between employee and employer - many of the respondents to our survey said they simply don't trust their boss to do the right thing by them and their career. Others felt they weren't valued at all."
Wilmot added that with the rise of social media and video CVs, more employers were now searching online for prospective candidates, explaining that social media profiles gave a much better overview of the individual before meeting them.
"HR departments need to switch themselves onto the fact that young people are now willing to engage with potential employees in a completely different way. The problem of trust won't solve itself - it's up to employers to get to know their workforce as well as they can - before they lose them altogether," he concluded.
