Outgoing Biba chief executive Eric Galbraith is to be replaced by the industry body's head of compliance and training Steve White.
White, pictured, assumes the post from 1 May.
Biba's head of corporate affairs Graeme Trudgill will take on the post of executive director reporting to White, as well as taking a seat on Biba's main board.
The industry body's chairman Andy Homer said that White would carry forward strategic reforms based on an ongoing consultation with memebrs.
"Our search for the right leader to carry BIBA forward has been extensive and to have someone who is both respected and known well by our members to do this is particularly pleasing," Homer said.
White joined Biba in 2004 having previously served at the Guardian Royal Exchange Group, the General Insurance Standards Council and the Financial Services Authority.
"We have a very demanding Board and a clear strategic direction. My first responsibility will be to articulate that to our members and stakeholders and then get on with the job of implementation," White said.
"I'm looking forward to working with Graeme and the rest of the Biba team to continue to drive the organisation forward."
