Laing & Buisson has launched a care homes comparison product in a bid to fill the void made by the termination of the Care Quality Commission's star rating system in 2010.
The subscription-based Care Compliance Monitor offers manipulation of inspection results of all operational care homes across England.
Justin Merritt, operations director at Laing & Buisson, said: "'The CQC's star ratings, despite a rather rocky entrance, became a tool against which many providers marked themselves, leading to healthy competition in bettering portfolios of care facilities.
"It has been a long time since there was an easy way in which to make those kinds of comparisons."
Laing & Buisson said that despite numerous promises to fill the void the Department of Health is still debating the issue and instead busying itself with NHS operation success and failure rates.
It said: "There has been little in the way of easy-to-access data on how groups of care home providers perform in meeting regulatory standards. For over two years it has not been possible to answer simple questions."
The Care Compliance Monitor pools inspection report data and provides a streamlined view of facilities' performance against the five main inspection areas which are; treating people with respect and involving them in their care; providing care, treatment & support which meets people's needs; caring for people safely and protecting them from harm; staffing; and management.
Results are presented as ‘pass' or ‘fail' marks in five corresponding columns for every home across the country, alongside details on group ownership and local authorities in which the facilities fall.
The data provided by the Care Compliance Monitor can also be manipulated to view the results in a series of league tables including; best to worse performing care groups; best to worst individual homes; local authority where the best performing/worse performing homes are located; and overall performance by sector or provider.
