Ensuring the right diagnosis for a medical condition will be crucial for employee health and employer private medical insurance costs, Canada Life has said.
The insurer stated that establishing the right path to treatment needed to be part of group products to enable group income protection and group critical illness policies to have maximum impact.
Independent analysis conducted by Healthcare Risk Management (HRM), a specialist in healthcare claims and case management services, showed clinical and emotional support had a positive influence on private medical insurance costs.
Dominic Howard, director, Europe, at Best Doctors, said: "While our principle goal is to give people diagnosed with worrying conditions the reassurance they are going down the right path, we regularly make modifications in diagnosis and recommended treatment.
"Not surprisingly, if for example unnecessary surgery can be avoided, so too should the associated costs."
Paul Avis, sales and marketing director of Canada Life Group Insurance, said in stretching financial times the cost of medical insurance was a prominent concern for employers.
