COVER recently held a breakfast briefing on international private medical insurance (IPMI) to explore the emerging developments in the sector.
Guy Jones, managing director of Berwick Devoil Healthcare, answered a "resounding yes" to advisers questioning whether to get into the IPMI market.
But Jones explained that advisers must be careful of the license rules in different regions and all the compliance that goes with expanding internationally.
Jones was one of three speakers at the COVER Breakfast Briefing to talk about the barriers and opportunities emerging in IPMI.
Phil Austin, head of Cigna Global Health Options, talked to adviser delegates about emerging global trends.
Austin explained the increasing consumer demand for more than straightforward IPMI cover meant insurers needed to innovate to offer expatriates more support outside of key product features.
Austin was the first speaker of the day at the briefing.
Declan Meighan, managing director at situation awareness specialist Maxwell Lucas, presented to adviser delegates about consumer reliance on technology when abroad.
He explained research findings to illustrate travel risks and the massive dependence on mobile phones, adding that technology would play an increasingly important part in consumer access to IPMI cover information.
Meighan was the last to speak to delegates before the event moved into a panel session.
