Bupa is calling on government to remove current taxes that are stunting workplace health and support provision.
In its report published today, Getting Britain Fit for the Recovery, Bupa found if current taxes on workplace health were removed SMEs would see productivity gains of £282m a year.
And larger businesses, the report said, would see gains of £160m totalling a productivity increase of £443m a year for UK businesses.
Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald, managing director of Bupa Health and Wellbeing, said: "Providers have a role to play in helping businesses to access this care in a sustainable and affordable way, however current taxes on these benefits mean huge potential benefits are being missed.
"We are calling on government to recognise that increasing access to early treatment and preventative healthcare is a clear win-win for government and businesses, and to remove tax disincentives that are acting as a barrier for employers."
Bupa added that overall cost in addition to tax implications were main concerns for businesses when considering workplace benefits.
