PruProtect has enhanced its income protection cover for NHS doctors.
The cover aims to automatically change in line with the NHS sick pay structure.
Payments will automatically tie in with doctors' NHS sick pay structure in a bid to avoid regular manual changes to the client's policy.
Deepak Jobanputra, actuarial and product director at PruProtect, said: "The normal structure of income protection deferred periods does not dovetail with the NHS sick pay structure. This makes it very difficult for advisers to match an appropriate solution for NHS doctors."
Michael Aldridge, sales director of London & Country, said the new GP option was a welcome introduction.
Peter Le Beau, co-chair of the Income Protection Taskforce, said the product would help facilitate cover for NHS doctors and would be a good sales aid.
Quotes including the new option will be available to advisers from September 22nd.
Doctors are entitled to NHS structured sick pay that increases each year during the first five years of employment.
They will receive full pay for a limited number of months, followed by half pay for a limited time, should they become ill, injured or disabled and cannot work.
Advisers may need to produce quotes and potentially issue new policies, with new deferred periods, every year.
