Royal London has announced Ross Ainslie will step down as managing director of the Royal London protection businesses, Bright Grey and Scottish Provident

After 10 years, Ross will be leaving in August to start studying for an MSc degree in September.

An internal successor will be appointed in the coming weeks.

John Deane, chief executive of Royal London's intermediary division, said: "Of course we are sad to see Ross leave, but he goes with our best wishes and grateful thanks for helping to shape two very strong brands in the protection space.

"Ross has made a significant contribution, and under his leadership Bright Grey and Scottish Provident have recently announced an excellent set of results in a very competitive market.

"Ross will be leaving a strong and successful business which is well placed to go from strength to strength."

Ross was a founding member of the executive team behind Bright Grey. He joined Royal London in 2002.

In 2008 he was appointed as managing director and following the acquisition of Scottish Provident has led both brands since 2009.
