The provider will be the sole supplier of protection products through Skipton's nationwide branch network, contact centre and website.

Tim Breedon, group chief executive of Legal & General said: "Our strength in this market is built around our overall approach to partnership, and we look forward to working with Skipton to demonstrate that our shared values will deliver tangible business results and a compelling offering to their customers."

David Cutter, chief executive of Skipton Group, said: "We hope that moving from multiple protection providers to one, specialist, partner will enable us to significantly enhance the delivery of products and service to our customers."

L&G already has agreements in place with Nationwide Building Society, Yorkshire Building Society and Chelsea Building Society, along with other banking partners.
