Brokers approve cancer cover moves

Medical insurance brokers have applauded moves by private medical insurance (PMI) providers to remove the limits on cancer coverage for many standard polices.

It comes after yesterday's announcement by Axa PPP that it had removed all cost and time limits for licensed cancer drug treatment for patients on standard individual and SME plans.

This was in response to Aviva's move in October to cover cancer treatments recommended by specialists in full and also extend coverage to include non-NHS drugs one related treatments and scans and rehabilitation.

The Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) gave its approval to both moves, calling Axa PPP's review of its heart disease and cancer coverage ‘positive', following on from Aviva's improvement.

Andrew Tripp, chairman of AMII, said: "We are delighted to see that insurers are working hard to improve the cover for our clients.

"As specialist independent intermediaries, this gives our members more choice to offer customers which has to be good news for the consumer."
