Assureweb has decommissioned its private medical insurance (PMI) quoting system with a view to introducing an upgraded portal in the future.
The technology services provider pulled the plug on its previous version after deciding it was not meeting the needs of its customers.
It will now undergo a research period to assess the market and the needs of any advisers wishing to use the service.
Mark Wilson, director of sales and marketing at Assureweb, explained that with only one provider being offered it was felt to be insufficient for the marketplace.
"The service from Mediquote was provided free but we wanted more products and more in terms of service management," he said.
"So we made the call to temporarily remove the service, take stock of the PMI market and ask "what should we do if we're going to put a PMI service back into that space?".
"We believe there's still a place for advisers in PMI sales, particularly with what's happening in the marketplace and the need to sell across products, so that when we do it we want to do it properly."
Wilson did not put a timescale on the process and also did not rule out working with Mediquote again if the parties could come to a suitable agreement.
He added: "It's a case of taking stock, looking at the proposition and market and then probably coming back in at some point offering a more comprehensive version to the Assureweb user base."
