Unum has launched a new online underwriting system.
The ‘intelligent' system is available on the Assureweb and True Potential platforms, and the provider believes it will be able to make 80% of underwriting decisions immediately.
It has been designed to simplify the application process for advisers and, where possible, enable immediate cover without having to obtain a doctor's report, regardless of the amount of benefit being requested.
The provider also says it will automatically confirm the original premium quoted, or add any ratings or exclusions.
Advisers who register as users of the new system through Assureweb or True Potential before 30th May will also have the chance win a Red Letter Day experience.
Linton Penman, head of retail sales and marketing at Unum, says: "The system limits unnecessary questioning, which is achieved by asking a number of high level questions based on our bio-psychosocial underwriting model.
"Depending on the answers given, further questions are only prompted until enough information is gathered for the system to come up with an underwriting decision.
"As a result, it will take considerably less time to complete an online interview compared to the traditional paper application method.
"The new service is also flexible enough to enable advisers to suspend and save partially completed application forms, which can then be completed at a later date," he adds.
