The number of online search enquiries by consumers for protection products has increased by 39% since the beginning of the year.
In addition group protection searches have leapt 86%, according to Unbiased.co.uk.
The IFA database website said that advisers must ensure their own websites reflect the additional services they offer when advising on life protection in order to maximise their ranking on such searches and highlight the importance of cover.
Unbiased.co.uk said the results suggest that increasing numbers of people are researching ways to ensure their dependents are financially stable in the event of the main breadwinner's death, given the tough economic climate.
In addition, businesses are increasingly looking at the options of group protection for their employees, providing an extra safety net for their staff.
Karen Barrett, chief executive of unbiased.co.uk, said: "These figures show more and more people are researching protection products online, and while some simple life cover policies are increasingly sold online, there is still a gap in the levels of life assurance held by the average person.
"There has never been a better opportunity for advisers to showcase the value of getting professional advice, to ensure that individuals and businesses get the right levels of cover for them, and they can access all of the products on the market."
