Bupa has launched a free iPhone and Android app to enable its international private medical insurance (IPMI) customers to access their policy information from anywhere in the world.
The MyCard app stores the customer's policy information on their mobile device and features translation capabilities for emergency pre-treatment authorisation.
At present the app is available only for IHI travel customers, but the provider hopes to have full functionality for all IPMI customers soon.
IHI Bupa customers have access to the company's emergency medical centre and the app will provide a direct link to this emergency helpline.
It can also translate authorisation information into over 50 languages.
Jan Madsen, managing director of IHI Bupa, said: "Being ill when you're away from home, in a foreign country with a language you don't necessarily speak, can be a really distressing time.
"Being able to instantly show your doctor what is needed so Bupa can authorise payment for treatment means unnecessary delays will be a thing of the past.
"The myCard app will give customers the peace of mind that they can access their policy information and request emergency medical assistance wherever they are, at the touch of a button."
It is available to download free from iTunes and the Android app store while an iPad version is currently in development.
