Exeter Friendly Society is to launch a new cash plan offering cash benefits for private or NHS optical or dental care.

Extra Care will be available to policyholders on Exeter's individual and group PMI plans and will start at a cost of £1.50 a week.

The optical benefit will include cash payments for eye sight tests, prescription and contact lenses, while the dental benefit will include cash for check-ups, hygienist fees, fillings, caps, crowns, bridges and dentures, orthodontic treatment and emergency or accident cover.

Commenting on the launch, Wendy Evans, commercial manager at Exeter Friendly Society, said: "Most cash plans cover a range of benefits. But owing to the older age profile of our customers we decided to focus on cash benefits for eyes and teeth.

"Although dental care is one of the fast growing areas of UK healthcare, many PMI policies still do not cover optical or dental treatment.

"This new addition provides Exeter policyholders with an affordable means of helping cover the cost of such treatment."

Benefits in the plan include £20 a year for sight tests and £370 a year for glasses and contact lenses, £500 a year for fillings, crowns, hygienist fees and orthodontic costs, and a full refund for dental bills resulting from an accident up to a maximum of £10,000 a year.
