BUPA International has joined forces with Spanish health insurer Sanitas to launch a plan that allows expats to receive private treatment in both Spain and the UK.
The plan - Sanitas Healthcare Complete - is, according to BUPA International, the first policy to offer cover for two countries. Although plans exist that cover all European countries, the new product aims to keep premiums competitive by covering just two. It is aimed at expats who divide their time between Spain and their home country. Sanitas, which is owned by the BUPA Group, has until now offered just local cover in Spain. BUPA International previously offered only global cover, exceeding the needs of expats residing in just two countries.
"Our customers told us that they wanted insurance products that matched their local needs. In Spain this meant taking the best of our global infrastructure and combining it with local knowledge," said Bill Ward, managing director of BUPA International.
Policyholders will have access to free treatment in Spain at any one of Sanitas' approved network of hospitals and clinics or received by one of its approved doctors. BUPA International pays for 90% of treatment in the second European country.
