The European Court of Justice ruling on gender has again been raised in Parliament.
Lord Myners asked the government what action it can take to ensure that the judgment "does not affect the development of an efficient UK insurance market"?
In a written answer, the commercial secretary to the treasury, Lord Sassoon, responded: "The government are disappointed by this judgment. We made very clear our concerns about any move to prevent the use of gender as a risk factor in the pricing of insurance policies.
"The government will continue to work closely with the Financial Services Authority and the Association of British Insurers in order to ensure that the negative impacts for customers and industry are reduced as far as possible."
