Employers gain "Sleeping Tiger" tool to manage effects of caring for elderly relatives
Unum has added AgeingWorks, an online portal for elder care support and guidance, to all its group risk policies.
AgeingWorks is provided by The Positive Ageing Company, and designed to help employees spir the signs of problems that are part of advancing age, prepare for care as needs develop and engage family members.
Employers wishing to offer AgeingWorks will also gain access to the Sleeping Tiger tool, which helps identify the cost of lost productivity to their business as a result of working carers taking time off or the cost of distraction and worry.
Exhaustion from juggling career, family, friends and health is affecting 32% of UK employees, The Future Workplace Report from The Future Laboratory found.
Glenn Thompson, customer solutions director at Unum, said, "We have been exploring with advisers and employers what the future workplace will look like, and increasingly the needs of older workers, often with concerns about their own health as well as that of their parents and partners, are getting priority attention.
"Including AgeingWorks in our offering at no extra cost is a fantastic solution for employers, bringing peace of mind to employees who, whether today or at some point down the line, are going to need the support it delivers."
Thompson added: " AgeingWorks is a natural extension to the tools we already provide to employers and employees in the mental health, musculoskeletal and cancer space.
"As with our e-modules for HR and line manager training and our smart phone-ready employee assistance programme, this on demand, easy to use application is a particularly exciting addition to our online capability."
