SunLife has announced a senior hire to lead its move into the general insurance market.

Simon Stanney has joined the business as general insurance director and will head up SunLife's pet and home insurance businesses launching in early September.

Stanney is the latest senior appointment at Sunlife who recently hired Mark Jones, formerly of LV= and Emma Walker, previously of MoneySupermarket to work in the insurer's protection business.

He brings 23 years of industry experience to the role having held senior insurance positions at HSBC, RAC, Ageas and VC backed Castle Cover.

Since its rebrand in 2014, SunLife has successfully launched a range of new propositions aimed at helping families get straightforward, affordable savings and protection products, including an ISA, life insurance and will-writing service.

Stanney said the company's pet and home products will pursue that strategy of finding ways to make insurance products more accessible to everyday customers, and give them a more straightforward, retail experience.

He said: "I'm delighted to be joining such a progressive and customer focused business," he says, "and I am confident that our new general insurance products will resonate strongly with both existing and new to brand customers".

Dean Lamble, managing of SunLife said:, "SunLife's transformation into a true retail financial services brand is well underway.

"The appointment of Stanney, coming off the back of the appointment of other senior industry figures such as Emma Walker from MoneySupermarket and Mark Jones from LV= is testament to our commitment to broaden our reach and appeal across customer segments and products lines."
