Ellipse improves approach to individual assessment

Ellipse, the digital group risk insurer, has made key changes to its approach to individual assessments with 73% of individuals accepted without the need for further medical information.

These improvements will bring about a significant reduction in the number of times Ellipse needs to ask the member for additional information.

It will also create a reduction in the number of members being loaded in key areas such as Body Mass Index, raised cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Tim Creamer, chief operations officer at Ellipse, said: "These changes illustrate our capacity to act on adviser feedback to review and change our processes. The traditional approach to individual assessment in group life and disability is a very time consuming process that can normally take weeks or months to produce a decision.

"We have made significant investment in our technology which means the member experiences a quicker, more streamlined process and improved member journey. Our online member assessment is faster, simpler and - we believe - better. As of December 2014, 73% of individuals were accepted instantly at the end of the questionnaire without the need for further assessment".

Ellipse is currently the only group risk insurer to offer online individual assessment.

The online questionnaire adapts its questions as the member provides answers, probing those areas where more information is needed, but skipping over anything not relevant to that specific member.
