Mental Health Awareness Week closes today (17 May 2024), throughout the last five days numerous firms and organisations from across the protection and health landscape have come forward to highlight the role of employers and workplaces in impacting mental health.
But the twist is that mental health permeates much more than just work lives, when applying for protection an adviser will have to ask about a consumer's mental health history. Invariably along this path, the questioning will turn to "have you ever had thoughts of, or attempted, suicide?" These questions aren't just generic background checks, the answers pertaining to a person's mental health can have a dramatic impact on the cover they will receive, exclusions put in place by providers and the cost of their cover.
