Andrew Wibberley: Learnings on income protection and the self-employed

At the end of the Income Protection Task Force’s (IPTF) week focussed on income protection (IP) and self-employment, co-chair Andrew Wibberley shares some of his personal learnings from being involved and the work leading to it.

L&G's State of the nation SME research showed 69% of self-employed don't have an adviser or accountant. There are two distinct angles on this - the first is that we need to come up with a long term plan to reach that 69% - we'll start on that one next week! For those more focussed on this year's numbers though this suggests that there are somewhere around one million self-employed people who DO have an adviser or accountant but DO NOT have any IP cover.
