While the primary trigger for protection buyers is the purchase of a new home, there are plenty of other life milestones that advisers should be looking at as key points to discuss cover with clients, writes Rose St Louis, protection director at Scottish Widows.

Covid-19 has exposed a level of fragility in the UK's financial resilience. The widespread loss, job insecurity and illness experienced by many has highlighted the need for protection as a part of individuals' financial resilience plans. Advisers are well-placed to help their clients navigate their protection priorities and options; the challenge is finding the right moment to broach the topic. So, what is the right moment? From recent Scottish Widows research, we can see that purchasing a home is the ‘go to' moment for advisers to start the protection conversation with their clients....
