Dementia is the number one killer in the UK and currently some 850,000 people are affected by it - not just the elderly but the young as well. If some experts are to be believed, its spread will be plague-like in the years to come as the population slowly ages. By 2051, it is estimated that two million people in this country will be living with the illness. Not quite an epidemic but not far off. Both worrying and troubling.
