Demand for out-of-hours GP appointments rising

Employee benefits provider, Unum UK, has released data on its Help@hand service. The remote GP service saw almost 60,000 appointments made in the 12 months preceding July 2024.

The data from the provider showed that 26% of remote GP appointments took place out of hours, between 8pm and 8am. The most common reasons for booking a GP appointment via the app included colds and flu; other minor infectious symptoms; and strains and sprains. The provider said that it issued over 8,000 letters to specialists for referral following appointments.
