9% of Scottish SMEs consider their PMI offerings effective

One in five small-to-medium businesses (SMEs) in Scotland offer private medical insurance (PMI) to employees, with 9% believing their current healthcare benefits – including PMI, dental and health cash plans – were effective.

A report by Howden Employee Benefits, Employee Benefits and Wellbeing in Scotland, surveyed over 100 HR professionals and business leaders across Scotland, identifying shortcomings in employee benefits and mental health support, as well as disconnect between employer offerings and employee needs. Mental wellbeing was also identified as a "significant" issue for SMEs as 76% said they lacked adequate measures to support employees' mental health and wellbeing, which Howden said underscores a critical gap in addressing employee mental health needs.
